We got to know Kiana a bit better by asking her a few questions which we'd love to share today.
What inspired you to create this month's DST Gold Member kit?
When I started deciding what to do for the DST Gold Member Kit I knew I wanted to steer away from a seasonal theme but wanted something more for everyday life. As a self proclaimed introvert I thought that would be a good theme to follow. When I found the colors I knew they would be perfect for the more somber theme. I think it's important to embrace yourself and I am certainly a wallflower. An observer of the others around me. Wallflower was born mostly out of my reflection of self. I hope you enjoy it!
What is your favorite part or element of the kit?
Definitely the colors. Colors have their own language, they can speak to each person differently and these colors definitely spoke to me!
Tell us about your family.
Married to a closet romantic we've been together for the better part of almost 20 years now and have 2 kids (1 girl 1 boy) at home in middle school and an older daughter out on her own. We're also owned by our fluffy tailed Alaskan Malamute.
How long have you been designing? What program(s) do you use?
I have been designing for about 2.5 years now. I use Photoshop CS6 Extended and lots of imagination!
What part of designing comes easiest to you (themes, colors, papers, elements?)
I'd say colors hands down. I love colors and I love choosing which colors go well together in my eyes. The only hard part is not putting purple in every kit, LOL, it's my favorite.
What part of designing is most challenging to you?
Stopping! Lol. I always want to add in one more thing.
What inspires you?
Everything. Life, music, poetry, my family and nature. I pretty much can find inspiration in everything from the mundane to the unique.
If you’re running low on design mojo, where do you go to kickstart your creativity?
If I'm just looking for ideas, I turn to magazines and Pinterest the most! If I'm really blocked, to my music. I often retreat to my tunes when I'm overwhelmed, blocked, or simply want to be alone. My music is my safe haven. I just put on the tunes and jam out and relax. Often I just need to step back and then I'm ready to go all refreshed the next day.
Link us to a layout that you have seen using your work that just left you awestruck.
I'm a sucker for a page full of clusters but add in some blending and this one left me certainly awestruck. I love how the blended photo is looking down and the framed one is looking opposite. That cluster of goodness is so perfect and shadowed just right! http://withlovestudio.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=22597&title=tomorrow-is-always-fre&cat=629
How much time do you allocate to designing in a typical week?
I'm flexible. I love that about doing this and being creative. If I have a lot going on for the week at home or with my family I can always cut back. But typically about 25-30 hours a week.
What is the latest you’ve ever stayed up to finish a design or scrap?
I typically close shop on my designing when hubby gets home from work. I like to be available after dinner for family and relaxing. But there has been the occasion that I've been up late cranking out the finishing touches on a kit, just recently in fact it was about 1am when I finally shut my PC down.
What’s your favorite snack to have handy while you design?
Oh man, I have such a sweet tooth so I try not to have snacks around....but there may or may not be some type of candy around most days! LOL
What magazines do you subscribe to (scrap & non-scrap related)?
Currently, none. I find it hard to subscribe to magazines regularly because I always feel like I'm wasting all the paper once I read them, I never know what to do with all the old magazines sitting around the house. My last subscription though was to Better Homes and Gardens. I love that one, but it ended last year some time.
Slippers or barefoot?
Socks and during the cold winters in Michigan, socks AND slippers together! Brrrr.
Favorite tv show?
