What inspired you to create this month's DST Gold Member kit?
My husband and I were talking about having boys via a surrogate and we got to talking about what he would want for the theme of their room - Sea Turtles. He explained to me how they were his favorite animal to watch at the Aquarium and he has all these little sea turtles that he has collected but kept them in a drawer for safe keeping. I saw the color palette of greens which is his favorite color and the rest is the kit

What is your favorite part or element of the kit?
I don't know if I have a favorite part of the kit, I love the whole feel of it. The are three papers that were designed from pictures I took during my first visit to Whidbey Island and my second date back in 2007 with my now husband. So I love how those turned out. But there are also some art pieces that I just love as well, especially the turtle but the mermaids are cute too.

Tell us about your family.
My family is small but large, I have two amazing daughters from previous relationships. My oldest is 20 and going to school to be a nursing assistant. My youngest will be 15 and is still talking about being a psychologist. She has her high school mapped out. In her Junior year is when we start touring the country to look at possible colleges for her and this time next year we start looking into scholarships and such. She has an amazing head on her shoulders. I am married to my best friend now coming up on three years but have dated off and on for almost 10 years. He is my rock and recently adopted my youngest. We have 3 furry babies - Moo, Georgie and Ender - whom we love taking pictures of. We are looking into adding two more humans to our household in the next year. So keep fingers crossed for us.

How long have you been designing? What program(s) do you use?
I started designing in 2011, with the help of designer challenges. But it wasn't until April 2012 that I officially got into a store and became legit. I use Photoshop, Illustrator and Lightroom. I am trying to teach myself how to use Artrage as well.

What inspires you?
That is an easy one, my family. Each of us are all so unique that it's easy to find some kind of spark from them. Whether its something they say, the way they are interacting with each other or their friends, or the way they respond to a movie.

If you’re running low on design mojo, where do you go to kickstart your creativity?
I look at old wives tales or vintage stories from other countries. I look at DST and figure out what people are ISO. I read poetry - mine or someone else's. But I also look at my family and what they are doing or are into at that moment. Sometimes we just need to step away from the computer, shut it down and just look at the world around us. I know it sounds cliche but it's true.

What is the latest you’ve ever stayed up to finish a design or scrap?
I am a night person, so normal bedtime for me is between 3 am and 5am, so when I have stayed up for 24 hours just to finish a kit, then you know something is up.

What’s your favorite snack to have handy while you design?
Orange Tic Tacs, M&Ms, water and maybe a beef jerky stick.

Link us to a layout that you have seen using your work that just left you awestruck.
That is a tough question to answer. There are so many that have just left me speechless but this one, I just love because it was 4 of my kits combined together to make one layout and it just flows so perfectly.

Slippers or barefoot?
Barefoot and I am always hurting them.. you would think I would put shoes on..not this rebel!

What has been the greatest compliment you have received about your designs?
I hear a lot from people who say they love my kits and that just melts me because it's such a great feeling to know that you have done something nice. But the greatest compliment actually came today, from my mom, when she said that I finally found my calling. For years she has said this was just a hobby for me and to get a real job, but I love what I do. I don't care if I don't make millions. I love the people who are part of this community and to have her say that, made me feel on top of the world.

Where is the farthest you have been from home?
Hmm, that is a good question. When we lived in California, I would travel to see my grandparents in New Jersey and sometimes we would go to New York for Christmas. One day, I hope to travel outside the US.
