Meet Our May 2011 Featured Designer: Paislee Press

The color mustard. I love creating with it and find myself gravitating towards that color all the time. Even when I purposely set out to not use it, that color ends up making an appearance in most of my kits. With Huntington, I wholeheartedly embraced my love for mustard yellow and then paired it with colors I don’t use very often – black and green. I’m kind of really digging the end result and I hope you’ll enjoy creating with it!

What is your favorite part or element of the kit?

I can only pick one? It’s a toss up between the papers, the ink splat and the color palette.

How long have you been designing?

[I've been designing] since 2006.

What program(s) do you use?

Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom and InDesign

What part of designing comes easiest to you (themes, colors, papers, elements)?

Making patterned papers comes easiest for me. Using them on a scrapbook page is another story altogether, though.

What project are you working on now (or next)?

I want to paint one of the walls in my office white and make a valance (using the perfect yellow-striped fabric [I got] from Ikea) for the kitchen window.

How much time do you allocate to designing in a typical week?

[I allocate] about twenty hours a week.

What is the latest you’ve ever stayed up to finish a design or scrap?

Five A.M., I think? I’m a night owl so late nights/early mornings are when I’m most productive. Lately though, I haven’t been able to stay up past three A.M.; I’m getting old!

Which of your accomplishments would your parents be most proud of?

They are typical Asian parents and place a lot of emphasis on academic achievement, so I’d definitely say that they were proudest of me when I graduated from USC with a Master’s in Public Administration.
