September 2011 Featured Designer: Trixie Scraps

Meet Trixie Scraps, the creator of this month’s DST Gold Member Kit, Natural Beauty

What inspired you to create this month’s kit?
One of my CT members shared a couple palettes with me and said they reminded her of fireflies. I combined some of the colors from each palette to come up with the palette for the Gold Member kit and I was inspired by her firefly idea to create a rich, flowery kit with lots of touches from nature.What is your favorite part or element of the kit?
I love the wood style I created for this kit that is used on several of the elements. It makes me want to reach out and touch it!

Tell us about your family.
I’ve been married to my husband Erick for almost nine years. We live in the Pocono Mountain region of Pennsylvania with our two dogs, Diamond and Lucy. Both of them are pitbull mixes that we rescued from shelters and we love them lots! We remain hopeful for the blessing of some human kids of our own someday, too.

How long have you been designing?
I have been designing nearly three years, now. I’ll celebrate my design-iversary next month!

What part of designing comes easiest to you (themes, colors, papers, elements)?
That would be a toss-up between colors and papers. Some days, I feel like I can really rock a palette… other days, I’m working with a palette I’ve been given for one reason or another, so I can focus on getting creative with my paper patterns. As a paper scrapper, I had a bit of a paper fetish, which has definitely carried over into my work as a designer.

How much time do you allocate to designing in a typical week?
I confess I’m a workaholic and probably log at least 60 hours a week. When I’m not actually designing, I am trying to learn new skills or running the administrative part of my business, which is a necessary evil and takes far longer every week than I wish it would!

What is the latest you’ve ever stayed up to finish a design or scrap?
If you ask my team, they can tell you they yell at me to go to bed earlier often. I think my record was a kit started at 9 p.m. one evening and finished about 6:30 the following morning.

What is your favorite quote?
“Your life is an occasion… rise to it.”

If you were given one wish that was sure to come true, what would you wish for?
I’d wish for a cure for PCOS so that all the women like me could realize their dreams of motherhood.

Which would you pick…more money or more time?
More time! I tell my husband all the time that I could really make great use of 36-hour days.

What would your best friend say about you?
That I have a big heart that I wear way out on my sleeve, that I always want to believe the best in others, and that the combination of the two often leaves me vulnerable to getting my feelings hurt.

At the end of the day, how do you want to be remembered?
I want to be remembered as someone who was dedicated to her family and tried her best to always make them feel as loved and as important as they deserve to feel.
